Jon Ravenhall fishes peg 11

Article text
Braving the weather i was the only fisherman on the lake, i arrived at 0900 and selected peg 11 - as the water was very coloured i elected to fish the margins on the right on the platform. fishing in 3ft of water using pole and waggler on size 12 hooks with strike one bait (6mm pellet) both hair rigged and as direct hook bait I did not have to wait long 1st fish was a 7.5 lb plated mirror which fought well on the pole. took seven other carp to 6.7lbs (including 2 koi and one fan tail carp, funniest thing but i caught the same carp twice - sorry to say that i could tell by the damage to its mouth and torn dorsal fin)from the same spot plus a bucket full of roach to 3/4lb.

The rain tended to put the fish off the feed. Having had over 50lbs of carp i decided to pack up about 17:00 BUT - last cast hooked a sea creature which i fought for 10 minutes - when the fish surfaced I got a shock as this was a mid to upper double, a beautiful Black and gold mirror which stretched my pole elastic to the limit finally breaking me under the platform.

I will be back, i am hoping to catch some of the good perch in the lake
